We urgently need your help. The Farm Bill is scheduled to come to the floor of the House for a vote on Wednesday, July 25. We need to gather congressional support for the “Fairness in Farm and Food Policy” amendment, which will be offered by Reps. Ron Kind (D-WI) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ). Earlier this month, we contacted you about HR 2720 (also known as FARM 21). Reps. Kind and Flake have taken many of the provisions from FARM 21 and put them in this new amendment. The amendment would limit government subsidies of unhealthy foods, cut subsidies to millionaire farmers, and provide more money for nutrition and food assistance programs for Americans and impoverished children overseas. Many of you called and e-mailed your representative about cosponsoring FARM 21, and we appreciate your help. Reps. Kind and Flake’s new bill will be heard on the floor of the House as soon as Wednesday, so we need your help now!
Here’s how you can help:
- Call your representative and politely ask her or him to vote for the amendment offered by Reps. Ron Kind and Jeff Flake. Phone calls are an extremely effective way to communicate with Congress. After you’ve made your call, send a follow-up e-mail.
As with FARM 21, the “Fairness in Farm and Food Policy” amendment would be beneficial for farmers wanting to produce healthy foods and for Americans wanting to eat a healthful diet. The amendment’s subsidy reforms will also make money available for nutrition programs that will enhance every American’s ability to eat a healthy diet.
With your help, we can change the Farm Bill. Please send this e-mail to your friends and family and ask them to take action. Encouraging your representative to vote for the Farm Bill amendment offered by Reps. Kind and Flake will help lower the rates of obesity and chronic disease. Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
